A Hivemap Master Thesis

Hivemap’s first development phase has begun, led by co-founder Lucas Stevens as part of his Master’s thesis. Key milestones of his work will include CEMS/GNSS data integration, decision-making algorithms coding, user interface development, and GNSS drone tracking.

✨ We’re excited to share that the first development phase of Hivemap has started!✨

📋 As part of his thesis for the Master of Space Studies at KU Leuven/Ghent University, co-founder Lucas Stevens will work on the software needed to show the proof-of-concept of Hivemap.

His hard work will be used to demonstrate that autonomous #drone fleets using #satellite data can provide crisis centers with fast, high-resolution #mapping of #disaster areas.🌋🛡️

Here is our plan for his thesis:
1. Data Integration 📊
Extract Copernicus (#CEMS) data via APIs. Process Sentinel data to map predicted flooding zones and sensitive urban areas.

2. UI Development📱
Create an interactive map with relevant data layers (e.g., Copernicus CEMS, Sentinel imagery, GNSS-based drone paths, weather forecasts, etc.).

3. Autonomous Decision-Making Algorithms 🛨
Optimize disaster area slicing by drone fleet size, ensuring uniform and fast coverage. Design sweeping patterns for drones to maximize efficiency.

4. Tracking drones Using GNSS Data 📍
Track drones on the user interface (UI) using GNSS data to determine the location of each drone.

📈 Completing these steps will allow us to apply for #VLAIO and European Space Agency – ESA #BIC funding, and to advance to the drone test phase with first responders. Stay tuned to learn more about the next steps of his thesis!
